After handling and evaluating the Ruger, Browning, Sig, S&W and Walther .22 LR target pistols, I decided on the Beretta U22 Neos. I got the six-inch long barrel in the basic black finish. It is an awesome target pistol and an excellent tool to introduce target shooting to your spouse or children. The craftsmanship is excellent and the pistol operates flawlessly. I am using 40 grain, 1240 fps, Federal Lightning from Walmart ]four-cents/round[ with no problems. The trigger action is short, clean and crisp. The contoured grip makes the pistol feel like it belongs in your hand. The sights are good. The magazine release location and operation are very good. Field stripping the pistol is as easy as it is to clean. For economical target practice, I can highly recommend the Beretta. It is a quality pistol for a very reasonable amount of money. Oh, yes, make sure you buy your ammo in bulk and get a few extra magazines...you''''ll burn through a few hundred rounds before packing this baby away for the day.

This gun is a pleasure to shoot. It cycles reliably, shoots straight, and has given me nothing in the way of problems. I have had a misfire or two, but that was the bulk pack ammunition I was feeding it. Moreover, it breaks down easily for cleaning. A quick field strip requires no tools, and to take down the grip requires only the included hex wrench. The mags are easy to operate; no hurting thumbs trying to cram that last round in the mag, as there's a button to draw the spring down fully. They drop free smoothly and lock back in just as smoothly. The thing about this gun is that overall it makes me want it in larger calibers. The .22lr is great for plinking and target shooting; now I want it in 9mm or 40S&W. A great starter pistol, and definitely worth the price.
